Cardiorespiratory
Diagnostics Seminar

[ Fall Series ]

Description

One-of-a-Kind Industry Seminar

This unique industry seminar updates participants’ knowledge of testing techniques, performance standards, quality assurance procedures, and clinical applications for basic and advanced cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing.

In an era of high-tech diagnostics, the challenge is twofold: ensuring the integrity of the data and knowing how to act on it. Precise data acquisition is the cornerstone of clinical safety; even minor inaccuracies in calibration or patient coaching can lead to misdiagnosis. This program bridges the gap between healthcare professional practices and established clinical standards. By combining rigorous technical standards with deep clinical insight, the seminar empowers healthcare professionals to eliminate diagnostic ambiguity, reduce repeat testing, and—most importantly— ensure accurate diagnosis, leading to better patient outcomes, enhanced quality of life, and reduced mortality.

Format

The program will include lectures, hands-on demonstrations and group discussions all conducted by expert faculty.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be better able to…

  • Ensure accurate and reliable data by applying technical standards to diagnostic procedures like Spirometry and CPET.
  • Verify that diagnostic tests comply with ERS/ATS standards to improve data quality and minimize technical errors.
  • Analyze cardiorespiratory data to determine if exercise limitations stem from cardiac, pulmonary, or musculoskeletal factors.
  • Integrate diagnostic findings into patient management plans, supporting surgical risk assessments and customizing cardiac rehabilitation goals.

Who should attend

Healthcare professionals and students dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with heart and lung conditions—such as Respiratory Therapists, Pulmonary Function Technicians, Exercise Physiologists, Rehabilitation Specialists, Cardiologists, and Pulmonologists.

Topics include

  • Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Spirometry
  • DLCO
  • Plethysmography
  • Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing
  • Field Testing - 6 Minute Walk Test
  • Direct Challenge with Methacholine
  • Indirect Bronchial Challenge
  • Exhaled Nitric Oxide & Respiratory Muscle Strength
  • Predicted Values & Reference Equations
  • Test Quality Assessment and Troubleshooting Techniques

Credit

Application will be submitted to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for continuing education contact hours for respiratory therapists.

Application will be submitted to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) for continuing education credits (CECs.)

All participants will receive a certificate at the conclusion of the Seminar.
